Before you begin
Please check these basics first:
- Replace the batteries in both the aquarium and the remote. Sometimes batteries are replaced in one but not the other. Both must have brand new alkaline batteries from a recently purchased, unopened pack.
- Do not use:
- rechargeable batteries
- used batteries
- non-alkaline batteries
- batteries labeled heavy duty
- Make sure the aquarium is turned ON.
At the top of the aquarium, there are two switches:
- a power/volume switch
- a mode switch
- Check the volume setting. The volume must be set fully to low or high. If it is stuck between settings, the aquarium may not function properly.
- Check the mode switch. The aquarium may respond differently depending on the selected mode, such as lights, no lights, music, or no music.
1. Point the remote correctly
The remote uses infrared (IR), so it must be pointed directly at the IR sensor located at the top of the aquarium.
- Make sure you are aiming directly at the sensor
- Stay within 12 feet of the aquarium
- Inconsistent aiming can cause inconsistent response
2. Try resetting the aquarium
Press the Play/Stop button on the aquarium itself.
- This is the star-shaped button located on the front of the aquarium
- Sometimes pressing this button will reset the toy so it begins responding to the remote again
3. Test the remote by hand
If the remote works when you press it by hand but does not work when connected to an external switch, the issue may be with the switch rather than the aquarium or remote.
If the remote works properly when pressed by hand, but not when activated through an external switch:
- test the switch with another adapted product
- confirm the switch is working consistently
This can help determine whether the issue is with the switch or with the remote setup.
After trying the steps above, if you still have concerns about how the remote is functioning, you can request a Return Authorization (RA) under warranty. Learn more about our warranty and the RA process HERE.
