Ensure you are using brand new, name brand alkaline batteries. Do not use rechargeable batteries or batteries marked as 'heavy duty' (because those are actually weaker batteries). This toy requires a lot of 'juice' to work, so if the batteries are too weak, it may work a time or two and then stop responding.
If after trying a new set of batteries, you are still experiencing issues, test the toy without an external switch. If it responds as it should without using an external switch, then try a different switch to see if that makes a difference.
Keep in mind the pitching machine takes about 11 seconds to 'get ready' for the pitch, so be patient!
